Eat– for Good Health
Do you ever wonder what a great looking singers (Jennifer Nettles, Alanis Morissette and Jordin Sparks) actually eat backstage? Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland tours non-stop. To stay healthy and energized, Jennifer (age 34) sticks to a semivegetarian diet (of seafood, eggs, dairy) with tons of fruit, vegetables, and whole grains.
Even when on the road, she eats three meals a day with protein at each meal. She is a hard-core yoga fan. When she craves chocolate, she indulges in a decaf soy cappuccino because her body can’t handle caffeine. She has given up chocolate bars entirely because the soy cappuccino is satisfying. Other must-haves are diet ginger ale, bottled water, throat-coat tea, a fruit plate, Good Earth green tea, Bananas and organic peanut butter. Canadian singer Alanis Morrissette eats mostly vegan with occasional salmon. Like most singers, she eats light before performances, often a meal is vegetable soup. At other times Alanis eats salads, soups, tofu curries, vegetable wraps, and some red wine. Her must-haves are assorted nuts, kale in soups, avocados, hummus, rye bread, and backstage (an 85% cocoa chocolate bar) decaf coffee and extra-firm tofu.
Jordin Sparks (an American Idol champ and Grammy nominee) is on a whirlwind 44-city summer tour with the Jonas Brothers. Backstage, Jordin jumps rope. She is eating less red meat and expects to eventually be vegetarian but definitely needs lots of protein. Her must-haves are English breakfast te, fuji apples, bottled water, cheddar cheese and triscuits, and an assortment of gum and mints. This talented 19-year-old enjoys few bites of a Clif Bar for a preshow boost and also fruit and dill pickles.

These beautiful singers can strut their stuff onstage and can do that with energy to burn. Let’s face it, they work hard.
I admire people who work hard to stay healthy and energetic.
They are at the far end of the spectrum from couch potatoes!
I try to eat healthy but sometimes it’s hard to constantly do so. I admire people like Jennifer Nettles you have a healthy diet. I think it’s easier for people like her to eat healthy because their diets are a continuous effort and not just a few week thing.
Hey “College Degrees”, you are right. Performers need to be consistent. I admire that, too.
