People appreciation

The California government program, Healthy Families, will insure about 700,000 children from “working poor” families.  This measure was brokered by Assembly Speaker Karen Bass,

D-Los Angeles, reports Patrick McGreevy and Eric Bailey for the Los Angeles Times.  With much anxiety in Sacramento after the state senate barely passed it, the program sailed with easy victory in the lower house on a 62-5 vote.  A quote from Karen Bass:  “It’s a memorable day when we come together across party lines to stand up for the children in California.”  Calling it a great victory, Governor Schwarzeneger promised to sign it.

Reba, the money will come from a new 2.35% tax on health insurance companies. This will leverage around a hundred million dollars and will be matched with federal funds.

Another exciting measure that went through the assembly has to do with teaching materials. Districts can buy devices that allow kids to read textbooks electronically.
