Exercise– for Body and Spirit

According to Harvard research, we should match our workout to our  mood.  Feeling good about an activity can actually help us drop poundage.   For me, when I’m feeling stressed, there is nothing like swimming laps.

If you aren’t a swimmer,  run at a 6 mph pace for 30 minutes, and then cool down with a 5-minute walk.  This burns 350 calories.   Feeling lazy? Play tag, catch, or something active with kids or your dog for an hour and burn 340 calories.  Feeling rushed? Ride a stationary bike vigorously for 30 minutes and burn 350 calories.  Feeling social? Take a ballroom dance class.  In an hour, you will burn 370 calories if dancing the whole time.

  1. Housework is great exercise, Janessa. You live in a two-story house and must be lugging stuff up and down the stairs– a great aerobic workout. For keeping arms shapely, we can polish. I try to remember to use both arms. Whenever we make beds we’re bending and stretching. It does feel good to have a clean, organized home.
