Our friends, Mary Alice Tallmadge and her husband, Rob Rowland, dear heart’s third cousin, have left for Catalina Island for the rest of the week. They brought their ocean kayak and will embark on long excursions of miles per day. Their “paddle” will take them down the eastern side of the island, past Ripper’s Cove to Lava Wall Beach and into camp at Goat Harbor just before Long Point Beach. Of course wind and weather are always unpredictable, but Mary Alice and Rob are seasoned. Truth is, the sense of the unknown is what gets their adrenaline rushing. If waves are so high that they submerge, they will tuck into shore and stay while bad weather passes. Most of the time conditions are perfect.
