Places– of Charm

Where do you go to get into the holiday spirit?  Shopping at a mall with live music or at a craft fair can be magical.  Children’s plays and local choirs are cheery, but what are empty nesters to do?  Here in Southern California, we join the throngs watching the Newport Harbor Christmas Boat Parade.  It’s hosted by the Commodores Club, a division within the Newport Chamber of Commerce.  The theme this year is “The Joys of Christmas Toys”.  The parade will begin at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, December 16th at the top of Bay Island of the harbor and then will go oceanward, past the Fun Zone.  Ruby’s Diner generously agreed to shut down early in order to accommodate the crowd on Balboa Pier.  The parade will run for five evenings.  Over a hundred vessels are signed up!

Santa himself is always on the finish boat. Hope he’s wearing long underwear under his red suit– it’s cold on the water at night.
