Eat– for Good Health

Are you attending or hostessing a play-off party for the Super Bowl?  Score a touchdown with lower calorie crowd pleasing finger food.  Far and away, crescent-dough pigs in the blanket are the most popular item.  Instead of  super-sizing them, cut a low fat hot dog in half and wrap each pig in half a blanket of dough.  Hebrew National’s 97% Fat Free Beef hot dogs are flavorful and delicious at 50 calories each.  Serve with two dipping bowls– fat free blue cheese salad dressing and 1/4 cup ketchup combined with 1 tablespoon hot sauce.  Place  celery sticks in a separate bowl nearby the half-pigs.

Actually, the 97% fat free pups are 45 calories each and also certified by the American Heart Association heart program.

Ah, well at least I didn’t over guess the calories. One perforated (one serving) triangle of Pillsbury Crescent dough is 120 calories. Since we are cutting the triangles and hot dogs in half, our one piece is 23-calorie piggy plus a 60-calorie blanket to total 83 calories. Even with the low calorie blue cheese “dip” or ketchup, it’s under 100 calories.

If you want to serve wraps, daughter Janice phoned to tell me about La Tortilla Factory Smart and Delicious tomato basil wraps. She says they are over nine-inches (covering a dinner plate) and just 100 calories with 12 grams of fiber. Janice is making turkey/low fat Swiss and “salad” wraps for a play-off party.

Mary Alice, Janice’s weight varies from 102 to 106, she told me. She’s not trying to lose any more weight, but she likes helping her friends eat healthfully. Some of them are frustrated, and she knows how that feels.

Marla Kathryn was born with super high energy and probably a higher natural metabolism. Maybe that is what skinny genes really are. These people just don’t stay still. In high school Marla was one of the fliers on the cheer team– boundless energy.

However a person gets to the weight that suits their body best doesn’t matter. At my age of 35, I know to watch what I eat carefully even though I swim every day that I can. The sun is out finally, and in ten minutes I’ll be swimming laps. Adios, amigas.

Amigas Corresponsals (pen friends) I am chasing after Mary Alice. We aren’t polar bears. The pool temperatures are kept to the high 70s even when the air temperature is in the mid fifties. But the sun is peaking through clouds, hurray.
