People Appreciation

Always giving body parts rigorous attention, artist John Baldessari creates art that is sometimes humorous.  altThe print on the left has to do with conscience.  Baldessari’s latest work at G.E.L. Gemini gallery, 8365 Melrose Ave in L.A.  features six funny mixed-media prints, among them a black stocking-clad right foot (3 color combinations) with a hole letting the big toe stick out.

When I go to art galleries, I like upbeat showings. I went to the late Dennis Hopper showing, and although many of his photographs, paintings, and sculptures were really good, there was a certain sense of melancholy.

I remember Dennis Hopper, a fine actor who died from complications of cancer in late spring. Becky, I went to his showing also and agree– a downer.

The show was dubbed “failed promises” by the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA. Guess they had it right: listless.
