At the ages of five and six, my other brother Philip and I began racing an X-class boat on Lake Okoboji, Iowa, a seven mile long, deep blue water jewel close to the Minnesota border. Ours was a wooden boat made by Johnson boatworks, and we kept it in pristine condition– always sponging it out after races and removing battens (wooden stays) before drying and folding sails. Both of us sail regularly, and this morning Philip emailed photos of our up-graded X-class boat made by Melges with windows in the jib. We used to crouch down in the cockpit to look for other boats! Sailing is amazing exercise, and it is absolutely not peaceful!
