People craft– taking care of yourself

Today is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.  As a child I gave up candy, but as a (mature!) adult I bring dinner to people going through difficult times.  My list includes someone going through chemo and another is a family with an epileptic infant.  Cooking healthy meals is a way to show love.  Wednesday meals at our house is always special, and I just make more of them.  This is one way I give thanks for the life I have.

At six this evening I’m serving as reader at our church.  You might be familiar with the first reading from the old testament, Joel 2:  “Rend your hearts, not your garments, and return to the Lord, your God.  For gracious and merciful is he, slow to anger, rich in kindness…”

Kathleen, we will see you there. Our boys are looking forward to having the sign of the cross rubbed on their foreheads with ashes!

I’m heading to my church for services during my lunch hour. It’s such a pretty day– in the 80s by noon supposedly in Southern California.
