Exercise– for Body and Spirit

When a sport is dear to our hearts (swimming laps is for me) we watch Olympiads with great enthusiasm.  After China’s Ye Shiwen set a world record in the women’s 400-meter, she was accused of using drugs.  I was appalled and saddened for Ye.  As you may know, she was quickly cleared.  I admire her for her professional demeanor and of course, her amazing hard work and talent to have become a top athlete.  I’m proud of Ye Shiwen.

China's Ye Shiwen swims in her semifinal of the women's 200-meter individual medley at the Aquatics Centre in the Olympic Park during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Monday, July 30, 2012.

  1. Sure, Ye is only 16, but hey, Michael Phelps was extremely fast at a young age. Ye has not flunked a drug test. There is no evidence that she has used any drugs. Ye has a shockingly fast freestyle leg — hers was faster than that of men’s gold medal winner Ryan Lochte!
