Eat– for Good Health

I’m posting the recipe I promised yesterday for oven-roasted Brussels Sprouts.  You want them crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside.  The secret for killing the sprouts’ bitterness is the peppery and sweet Taste of Cyprus spice blend from the condiment line, gustusvitae.com.  Paprika gives it a reddish appearance.

Ingredients:  1 lb. Brussels sprouts, 3 tbsp. olive oil, 2 1/2 tsp. Gustus Vitaie’s Taste of Cyprus.

Directions:  Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Cut off loose leaves and dry stems. Mix ingredients in a large bowl.  Place in a roasting pan and roast for 35 minutes.  During cooking, give the pan a couple of shakes in order to turn sprouts for even roasting.  Remove and dust with sprinkles of spice blend.  Serve immediately.

On the subject of skinny jeans, mine are four sizes too tight. I’m desperate and decided to go on the military diet. What do you think about this, safety wise, Kathleen?

  2. Janessa, many succeed on the military diet, but usually only use it for three days to get going. Here it is below, but I’d swap out the ice cream for fat-free yogurt. Ice cream can be a trigger!
    Day One
Breakfast: Black coffee, water, or tea; half of a grapefruit or pink grapefruit juice; and one slice of toast with 1 or 2 tablespoons of peanut butter
Lunch: Black coffee, water, or tea; 1/2 cup of water-packed tuna; and one slice of dry toast
Dinner: Black coffee, water, or tea; 3 oz lean meat; 1 cup green beans; 1 cup beets; 1 cup vanilla ice cream; and one small apple
    Day Two
Breakfast: Black coffee, water, or tea; one egg, any style; one banana (some versions say 1/2 banana); and one slice of dry toast
Lunch: Black coffee, water, or tea; 1 cup of cottage cheese; and five saltine crackers
Dinner: Black coffee, water, or tea; two hot dogs; 1/2 cup carrots; 1 cup broccoli (or cabbage); one banana (some versions say 1/2 banana); and 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream
    Day Three
Breakfast: Black coffee, water, or tea; five saltine crackers; one egg (or one slice cheddar cheese); and one 4-oz glass of apple juice
Lunch: Black coffee, water, or tea; one hard-boiled egg; one small apple; and one slice of dry toast
Dinner: Black coffee, water, or tea; 1 cup tuna, chicken, or turkey; 1 cup cauliflower or green beans; 1 cup beets; 1 cup cantaloupe or one small apple; and 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream
After you have completed the 3 day diet tuna, you should eat a low calorie diet so you do not regain the weight you just lost. If you have additional weight to lose, resume the 3 day diet tuna after taking a four day break.

This diet is bland, but man oh man, it works like a charm. I agree on swapping out the ice cream for yogurt, Kathleen.

Yay. And those of us who aren’t legs models still want to go to the beach not looking like the Hollywood Hillbillies! (Hold onto your beach balls, Episode premiere is on August 5.)
