People Appreciation

Our hearts go out to the four Marines who were killed yesterday at a reserve center in Chattanooga, Tennessee and their grieving families. Their names have not been formally released, but according to state officials one victim was Thomas Sullivan who survived two tours in Iraq. Three others were injured in the hail of gunfire.

The suspected gunman, identified as Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez, 24, was also killed.

U.S. Attorney Bill Killian called the shooting an “act of domestic terrorism” and pledged the resources of the FBI and Department of Homeland Security for the investigation.

Any terrorism including domestic is frightening. First the shooter unleashed a barrage of gunfire at one military center, and then murdered four Marines at another. A Marine recruiter and police officer were also shot, and a Navy soldier is in critical condition.

Police fired back at the second facility. An autopsy of the gunman is pending, and it is not clear whether police killed him or he killed himself.

  3. The gunman, Mohammad Youssuf Abdulazeez, 24 years old, was a naturalized U.S. citizen from Kuwait. It’s hard to imagine the hatred that is directed toward our beloved soldiers who proudly serve and protect our country.

  4. The identities of the four Marines are known now.
DAVID WYATT—married with young children lived in Montana
CARSON HOLMQUIST—great sadness at his parents’ Wisconsin home
THOMAS SULLIVAN—shock and disbelief at his parents’ Massachusetts home
SKIP WELLS—was texting his long time girlfriend, and his last two words, active shooter, were the last two words she heard from him. Hours passed, and she didn’t learn of his fate until the next day.
    Our country is in mourning.

Reba, Representative from Texas, Mike McCaul said, “Based on my experience, I think he was radicalized by these individuals in Syria.” I’d guess he was recruited.

Many of these new generation of terrorists are recruited over the Internet. After that, they might go to Iraq or Syria. Scary!!
