Places– of charm

So-Cal-Cool home architecture leans toward Asian or craftsman minimalist but without carefully raked pebble driveways and lack of landscaping.  Take this compound for example, belonging to cinematographer Christopher Dudley and sit-com actress Joely Fisher (daughter of Connie Sevens and Eddie Fisher).  Although it sold for $2.4 million and was purchased for $3.35 million in 2005, they need a larger place for their growing family.  Isn’t it interesting that this is 4 bedroom 7 bath home although living space is 4,500 square feet!

It is a stunning home, but I can’t swim laps in a kidney shaped pool. If I ever moved out of Woodbridge/Irvine where we have thirty-eight pools, Rob and I would need our own lap pool.

Many of Hollywood elite live in Encino. John Goodman sold his home to David Hasselhoff, and this home is either for sale or has been sold. Same with Ashlee Simpson-Wentz who wants to move from the hills to the beach.

On the subject of beach homes, my son (an RN) with my daughter-in-law (who graduates from law school in late May and grandchildren, D’mitri and Roxanne, are moving from New York back to Southern California– they are looking at Dana Point’s lantern district. Probably they will rent before buying, but they tell me the homes are amazingly affordable there. Some have ocean views.

The lantern neighborhood is charming. Two hundred years ago, colored lanterns were used by ships, and streets are named after the different colored lanterns– Violet Lantern, Blue Lantern, etc.

Kiwana, I just learned this a couple of days ago. My son saw a 2-bedroom 1-bath handyman special for sale at $350 K in the lantern district. It’s a little small at 800 square feet, but he says as a first time homeowner he might qualify with his modest down payment of $10,000.

I have to go back to the store– so many “different” ingredients for Oprah’s favorite Celery Root Soup with Granny Smith Apples and Chive Oil. I need to find celery root– not just celery, mind you. I promise to return here to give everyone a full report on the soup tomorrow.

Sweet Lord, I took a look at the work involved with that recipe– I’d rather just eat the raw ingredients– a Granny Smith apple, a handful of cashews, and some celery sticks. I am curious, though, to see how it turns out.

Rachel, I’m curious too. I don’t have any complicated recipes as you know, in GOLD STANDARD OF THIN. Who’s got time? It’s different for stars who have a chef.

As much as I adore Oprah’s intelligence, character, and personality, she weighs about 200 pounds. That means she can eat quite a lot of calories on a diet and lose weight. I can’t since I’m plump, short and started the gold plan at 135. I wouldn’t lose any weight on Oprah’s diet of around 1600 calories a day.

You might even gain a few pounds. Using the classic formula from Kathleen and Janice’s book– 135 times 7 is 945. Pinky, you would have to stay under a thousand calories to drop two pounds a week.
